Titanic Submersible: 13 thousand feet in depth, five billionaires in the submarine... How did an explosion take their lives?

All five people aboard the missing submarine died in the North Atlantic. A wreckage of the missing submarine was found near the Titanic ship during the search operation. The US Coast Guard has given this information.

US Coast Guard Rear Admiral John Mauger told a news conference that search instruments on the Titan submersible did not hear any explosions, which is believed to have killed all aboard the submersible.

The announcement marks the end of a search and rescue operation since the small tourist vessel went missing in the North Atlantic four days ago.

Rear Admiral John Mauger told reporters in Boston that analysis showed that debris found on the ocean floor 1,600 feet (500 m) off the Titanic's bow was consistent with an explosion of the submarine's pressure chamber.

"On behalf of the United States Coast Guard and the entire Unified Command, I extend our deepest sympathies to the families," Mauger said.

On board, the ship were British explorer Hamish Harding, French submarine expert Paul-Henri Nargiolet, Pakistani-British tycoon Prince Dawood and his son Sulaiman, and Deputy Director Oceangate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush.

Oceangate said its thoughts are with every family member of the deceased at this sad time.

These men were true explorers, with a distinctive spirit of adventure and a passion for exploring and protecting the world's oceans, it said in a statement.

The Coast Guard announced earlier Thursday that an underwater robot had discovered a "wreck field" in the search area.

Accident due to bad weather?

Officials said they later learned that the fragments included the submarine's rear (tail) and the fore and aft ends of its pressure hull.

Mauger said the Coast Guard was not sure when or why the ship exploded. He has also refused to say whether the remains of the people will be exhumed.

It's an incredibly unforgiving environment on the ocean floor, he said.

Mauger said the evacuation of personnel and ships would begin soon, but the unmanned robots would continue to operate on the ocean floor for now.

He said that we will collect as much information as possible.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that the US military had originally detected a possible explosion of the plane on underwater sound monitoring devices shortly after it went missing on Sunday.

An unnamed senior Navy official told the Journal that the US Navy analyzed the acoustic data and found an implosion or explosion in the general vicinity of where the Titan submersible was operating when communications were lost. An anomaly consistent with an explosion or detonation was detected.

The tiny subs, named Titan, disappeared on Sunday as it descended from the Titanic, more than two miles (about four kilometers) below the surface of the ocean and 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

OceanGate Expeditions charged $250,000 for a seat on the submersible. In a 2018 lawsuit, its former director of marine operations raised concerns about the Titan's "experimental and untested design".

Harding was a billionaire and keen explorer, holding three Guinness records, while the Dawood family was one of the richest families in Pakistan. Nargiolet was nicknamed "Mr. Titanic" because of his frequent dives at the site.

The British and Pakistani Governments have expressed their deepest condolences to the families of all the deceased.

Titanic attraction among tourists

The 21-foot (6.5-meter) Titan was due to surface again seven hours after it began descending at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.

But less than two hours later, the craft had lost contact with the other submarine.

Ships and aircraft from the US and Canadian Coast Guards, as well as a robot sent from France, searched 10,000 square miles (about 20,000 square kilometers) of surface water for the ship, roughly the size of the US state of Massachusetts.

Searches intensified in areas where underwater explosions were heard late on Tuesday and Wednesday. But Mauger said that ultimately the voices did not appear to have any connection to the wreck site.

Let us tell you that the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank during its maiden voyage from England to New York in 1912 with 2,224 passengers and crew. More than 1,500 people were killed in this accident.

It was discovered in 1985 and remains an attraction for marine experts and some tourists.

The pressure at that depth as measured in the atmosphere is 400 times greater than at sea level.

Marine scientist and oceanographer David Mearns, who specializes in deep-water search and recovery operations, said the discovery of the first wreck indicated a rapid breakup of the submarine.
