
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a visit to Gujarat. On the occasion of World Wildlife Day on Monday, PM Modi enjoyed a jungle safari in Gir National Park located in Junagadh district. PM Modi reached Singh Sadan, the guest house of the State Forest Department located in Gir National Park on Sunday night. Where after a night's rest, he went on a jungle safari on Monday morning. Earlier on Sunday evening, PM Modi offered prayers at the Somnath temple.
PM Modi will chair the meeting of the National Wildlife Board.
Some ministers and top officials of the Forest Department were also present with PM Modi on the jungle safari. Today PM Modi will also chair the meeting of the National Wildlife Board (NBWL) at Shasan Gir, the headquarters of Gir National Park. The National Wildlife Board has 47 members including the CDS, which includes representatives of various states, representatives of NGOs, wildlife officials, and secretaries of states. After the meeting, PM Modi will also meet the women employees of Gir National Park.
It is worth noting that the Central Government has allocated Rs 2900 crore for Project Lion related to Asiatic lions in Gir National Park. Conservation of Asiatic lions will be done with this fund. At present, Asiatic lions live in an area of about 30 thousand kilometers spread across 9 districts and 53 talukas of Gujarat. A national referral center for wildlife is also being built in New Pipaliya of Junagadh district. Along with this, a monitoring center and hospital have also been built in Gir National Park to track wildlife.
