Uber driver's counsel injured, case adjourned till March 4

New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) A court here on Monday adjourned the hearing in the rape case against a driver of the Uber cab company after the defence counsel informed the judge that he will not be able to attend proceedings due to injuries suffered by him after he fell from the stairs.

Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja adjourned the matter till March 4 for further hearing on final arguments.

The proxy counsel of cab driver Shiv Kumar Yadav's advocate D.K. Mishra filed an application seeking adjournment in the matter.

The counsel said Mishra has been advised complete bed rest and he will not be able to attend court proceedings as he fell from the stairs on Sunday evening, was injured and was suffering from acute pain.

It said Mishra will not be able to advance the final arguments in the matter.

The prosecution had on January 31 completed recording of evidence in just 17 days.

According to police, the woman executive was allegedly raped by 32-year-old Yadav on the night of December 5, 2014 in the cab she had hired to head back home in north Delhi's Inderlok area. The accused took the woman in an isolated place with the motive of committing the heinous crime.

The court had on January 13 framed charges of rape, causing grievous bodily harm and endangering the life of a woman, kidnapping a woman, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt against Yadav under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
