UPSC CSE Extra Attempt: UPSC's answer in court, giving one more chance in the civil services exam is a complicated matter

On Monday, March 7, 2022, the Supreme Court heard the petition of three candidates seeking one more chance in the Civil Services Main Examination of the Union Public Service Commission due to the Corona epidemic. During the hearing, the Union Public Service Commission, while presenting its reply on the petition, said that it is a very difficult issue to give one more chance to the candidates. This complex issue requires policy consideration. For this, the bench has adjourned the hearing of the matter till March 21.

 

 

Three aspirants of the UPSC Civil Services Examination, through a petition, told the Supreme Court that they had qualified for the UPSC 2021 preliminary examination, but later appeared in all the papers of the main examination after being found COVID-19 positive. could not attend. The petitioners are seeking permission to appear in the next main examination or to conduct a special examination of the missed papers for them before declaring the result of the 2021 examination.

The counsel appearing for UPSC told the top court that they need to take directions and keep all aspects on record before taking any decision on the issue. The advocate told a bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Justices CT Ravikumar that this is an issue that is very complex, therefore, whether an opportunity can be given or not, will take some time to decide. After this, the Supreme Court fixed the matter for hearing on March 21, 2022, and asked all the parties to file affidavits before the next date.

 

UPSC Civil Services Main Examination was conducted by the Union Public Service Commission from January 7 to 16, 2022. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the petitioners, told the bench that out of these three, two petitioners had given some preliminary papers of UPSC CSE (UPSC Civil Services Exam) main examination and could not participate in the remaining papers due to corona. While the third petitioner could not appear in any paper due to corona infection.
