New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS) Arvind Kejriwal was the only one among the three people who led the AAP, the BJP and the Congress who won from his constituency. The BJP's Kiran Bedi and the Congress' Ajay Maken were both defeated.
Kejriwal defeated his nearest rival, Nupur Sharma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by 31,583 votes.
His India Against Corruption colleague and former police officer Kiran Bedi, the BJP's chief ministerial candidate, lost the safe Krishna Nagar seat to a little known lawyer S.K. Bagga by a narrow margin of 2,277 votes.
Also in the list of losers was Congress leader Ajay Maken, who was the party's face in the election.
He finished third in his Sadar Bazar constituency with 16,331 votes, behind winner Som Dutt of the AAP (67,507 votes) and Parveen Kumar Jain of the BJP (33,192 votes).
Bedi made a public apology to the BJP for letting the party down, but said it was not her loss and the party needs to introspect about the reason behind the defeat.
The BJP came down to a mere three seats in the assembly from the over 30 it had won in the 2013 election.
Maken resigned as Congress general secretary after the party failed to win a single seat in the city it had ruled for 15 years.
Sandeep Kumar of the AAP won with the biggest margin. He trounced Prabhu Dayal of the BJP by 64,439 votes in Sultanpur Majra constituency in northwest Delhi.
AAP's Prakash trounced Arvind Kumar of the BJP by 63,937 votes in Deoli in south Delhi, while AAP's Ved Parkash trounced BJP's Gugan Singh by 50,023 votes in Bawana in northwest Delhi.
