The Supreme Court will hear on April 16 the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. The matter is listed before a bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
Other judges on the bench include Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice KV Vishwanathan. More than 10 petitions, including the petition of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, are pending before the Supreme Court. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has also approached the Supreme Court challenging the validity of the Waqf Act.

The central government had filed a caveat in the Supreme Court on April 8, seeking to hear its side before passing any order on the matter. A caveat is filed by a party in the High Court and the Supreme Court to ensure that no order is passed without hearing its side.
Application in support of the Waqf Act
According to ANI, an intervention application has been filed in the Supreme Court in support of the Waqf Amendment Act, stating that the amendment is by the Constitution of India. An intervention application is a request to participate in a legal matter or proceeding. This application has been filed by Satish Kumar Agarwal, member of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha and Vishnu Gupta, national president of NGO Hindu Sena.
