Ghaziabad, Feb 4 (IANS) Lawyers agitating for setting up of a bench of Allahabad High Court in western Uttar Pradesh, decided to suspended their proposed Feb 5-7 boycott of the courts.
The decision was taken at a meeting in Moradabad.
"Keeping in mind the interests of the litigants, the lawyers decided to suspend the three-day boycott of the courts. Now the lawyers would boycott the courts Saturday only. The next meeting of lawyers has been called at Aligarh Feb 14, 2015, to chalk out the next course of action," said Deepak Sharma the secretary of the Ghaziabad Bar Association.
Highlighting the importance of high court bench in west Uttar Pradesh, the senior lawyer and former president of the Ghaziabad Bar Association Surendra Rathi said the Allahabad is 800 kilometres away from west UP districts while Lahore in Pakistan is nearer to them. They are unable to get seat in the trains for a night long journey. Most visits become futile when the court adjourns matter without hearing the case on the date. At present over 12 lakh cases are pending alone in Allahabad High Court. So western UP residents are deprived of justice and most people suffers the atrocities of builders and the high handedness of government agencies during 34 years old agitation.
Agreeing with lawyers' demand the Ghaziabad MP and union Minister Gen. V.K. Singh said that he would put his entire weight to meet their demand. The matter was also discussed in parliament in which the example of Lahore was cited, added the union minister.
