Earlier, Jammu Inspector General of Police Mukesh Singh had said about the encounter that the terrorists had come intending to carry out a big conspiracy which was foiled.
Reacting to the success of the security forces, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha had said, "No external force can distract us from our path of peace and progress." The four terrorists killed in the encounter were hiding in a truck. After the encounter, the police officer had told that a truck was stopped for investigation at 5 am near the toll plaza in the Banota area of Nagrota, but the truck driver escaped leaving the vehicle. As soon as the CRPF and policemen started searching the vehicle, the terrorists hiding in the truck opened fire. According to Singh, the militants were asked to surrender, but they refused to do so, after which the encounter started. He said that other security forces also joined it, after which fierce firing took place. During this time, terrorists threw grenades and opened fire.
