Yamuna Floods: Flood risk in these areas of Delhi! Water rising rapidly from Haryana; Alert for 48 to 72 hours

The water level in the Yamuna river is rising rapidly. In view of which the risk of floods in Delhi and surrounding areas has increased. Because lakhs of cusecs of water has been released from Hathinikund Barrage in Haryana. Water is moving towards Delhi with a strong current. At the same time, it has been raining in Delhi for two days. In view of the danger, an alert has been issued and teams have been deployed along the Yamuna.

The water level of Yamuna was recorded at 204.60 meters at 4 pm on Sunday, which is more than the warning level of 204.50 meters. In such a situation, conditions like the floods of 2023 are again being created in Delhi. At that time the record of 45 years was broken and the water level of Yamuna reached 208.48 meters. Due to continuous heavy rains in the mountains, there is a possibility that Yamuna will be in spate in Delhi from midnight on Monday-Tuesday.

 

Delhi government issued alert

 

1,78,996 cusecs of water was released from Haryana's Hathinikund Barrage at 4 pm on Sunday. Water is continuously coming in almost the same proportion which will reach Delhi at around 2 am. Due to this, the water level of Yamuna is likely to cross 206 meters. A warning has been issued for this. The Delhi government has ordered the people living in the coastal areas of Yamuna to be cautious and to be alert to vacate the house if the water level rises. The administration has increased preparations to deal with floods in the coastal areas of Yamuna. The wall on the banks of the river in Yamuna Bazaar has been strengthened so that when the water level rises, it does not enter the market rapidly, but the sewers around Yamuna Bazaar have already started overflowing.

 

In the year 2023, there was a flood in 24 hours

 

In 2023, on July 10 at 3 pm, the water level of Yamuna was 205.10 meters, but 2,15,677 cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund Barrage at once and Delhi was flooded on July 11. The water level of Yamuna had crossed 206.34 meters at 10 am itself. On July 11, again the maximum 3,44,035 cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund Barrage at once. On July 12, the water level of Yamuna was 207.38 meters.

 

Flood water had come on the streets of Delhi

 

Due to the release of huge amount of water, the 45-year record of flood in Delhi was broken on July 13, 23. The water level of Yamuna in Delhi had reached 208.48 meters. The flood water had reached the premises of Kashmiri Gate ISBT. The railway underpass on the Outer Ring Road was overflowing. Traffic on this route was closed. Yamuna Bazaar, Amnesty Market were all submerged. The most damage was done in Yamuna Khadar. People's household goods were washed away. People were not able to take their pets out of the river. More than 3000 people were evacuated safely from the flood area. Life was affected by the flood for about a month.

The Chief Minister and the ministers of the concerned department are constantly taking reports of Yamuna from us. We are fully prepared to deal with the flood.
