Following the incident, the Imphal East and Imphal West authorities withdrew the curfew relaxation announced earlier to maintain law and order in the area. Day curfew has also been reimposed as a precautionary measure.

As per information, the incident took place when the Meitei women were attempting to cross a barricaded area in the district. They were stopped by the Assam Rifles and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), leading to stone pelting and clashes between the community and the armed forces.
