The controversy has erupted after the name of a ruling Trinamool Congress MLA was included in the list of health workers (who were to receive the Covid-19 vaccine on Saturday). TMC MLA Sourav Chakraborty was later removed from the list after being questioned by the Bharatiya Janata Party. TMC termed this as merely an error, which has since been corrected.

 

Chakraborty, a TMC MLA from Alipurduar in North Bengal, holds a Ph.D. degree. He was the first in the list of health care workers who were to receive the vaccine at Alipurduar District Hospital.

 

He said, "I have a Ph.D. degree from the district health department and also the chairman of the Rosie Kalyan Samiti (Rogi Kalyan Samiti) at the district hospital. The moment I came to know that my name is on the list of health workers, I contacted the Chief Medical Officer (CMOH) of the Health Department and refused to take the vaccine. I am overseeing the vaccination program at Alipurduar District Hospital. "

 

BJP's Alipurduar District Committee President Ganga Prasad Sharma said, "The MLA must have tried to mislead the people by getting the vaccine first. He holds a doctoral degree but is not a doctor. The ruling TMC and Chakraborty have been ridiculed by the common people. "Let me tell you that Girish Chandra Bera, the Chief Medical Officer for the health of Alipurduar could not be contacted.

 

A doctor at the hospital, on condition of anonymity, said, "The MLA's name was found in the list as the chairman of the Welfare Welfare Committee and he also wrote his name as Dr. Chakraborty. The health department should cross-check Was. "

 

The TMC leadership dismissed the incident, saying it was an error that was rectified. TMC spokesperson and minister in the Mamata government, Tapat Roy, said, "It is human nature to make a mistake.
