Dhaka The Bangladesh government has ordered a nationwide lockdown from Monday to a week because of rising cases of coronavirus. The Dhaka Tribune newspaper was quoted as saying that Bangladesh Road Transport Minister Obaidul Qadir gave this information in a conversation with the journalists on Saturday. Bangladesh reported 6,830 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, the highest number in a day.
The total number of corona cases in the country has reached 6 lakh 24 thousand 594. According to the data released by the government, the death toll of 50 new deaths in 24 hours has increased to 9,155. Earlier on Wednesday, 5,358 new cases of corona were reported, the highest one-day surge since the epidemic in the country in March last year.
Kadir, the ruling Awami League general secretary, said that to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the government has decided to implement a seven-day lockdown from Monday, as cases of deaths are steadily increasing across the country. However, this order will not apply to emergency services.
The report states that factories will remain open during lockdown and workers can work in shifts following the Corona Guidelines. State Government Public Administration Minister Farhad Hussain quoted the Dhaka Tribune as saying, "Every office and court will remain closed during this bandh, but industries and mills will continue their work on rotation."
On Monday, the Prime Minister's Office issued an 18-point directive, which includes a ban on all public ceremonies in areas with high rates of infection. It calls for limiting gatherings at all types of events, including social, political, and religious. It further states that buses will not be allowed to carry passengers more than half their seating capacity and must strictly follow safety guidelines.
