The country has been battling the second wave of the Coronavirus for the past several days. So far, more than two lakh people have died due to Covid in the country. However, till now this virus was being found only in humans, but the infection has been found in Asiatic lions in Hyderabad. Eight Asiatic lions have been found infected with the coronavirus at Hyderabad's Nehru Zoological Park (NZP). However, all these lions are recovering and recovering slowly. This is probably the first case in the country of Covid-19 in animals. The RT-PCR test of these lions was conducted last month, according to which they have been found infected. At the same time, it has been instructed to close Zoos and National Parks all over the country after the lions get Covid positive.
On 29 April, the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) told NZB officials that these are lion positive. Confirming the report, Dr. Siddhanand Kukreti of NZP said that now the lions are getting better. In April last year, eight tigers were infected with Covid in New York's Bronx Zoo, but this time for the first time it has been reported in the country in lions. Dr. Shirish Upadhyay, director of the Wildlife Research and Training Center, said that after the case in the Bronx, there was no case of covid positive in wild animals anywhere. However, in Hong Kong, the virus has been detected in dogs and cats.
On the 24th of last month, when the doctor was visiting the park, he noticed that some lions were getting water from their nostrils and coughing. Also, they were not eating anything. He then took swab samples of these lions and was then sent to investigate. The eight lions of the park were later infected with Covid. Due to being found positive, these lions have been isolated and are being given the necessary treatment. All are getting better by treatment. Testing has shown that the infection was not caused by any serious variants. At the same time, no real evidence has been found that the disease can reach humans from any animal.
