The UN peacekeeping chief on Monday welcomed the deployment of the largest contingent of women peacekeepers from India in Abyei. During this, he said that women soldiers mean efficient operations.

"Women Peacekeepers Mean More Efficient Operations"

UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix said in a tweet, “Delighted to see the largest ever contingent of women peacekeepers from India arrive in Abyei, Where she will work for peace with the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNIFSA). More female peacekeepers mean more efficient operations and they help better reflect the people we serve.”

The largest contingent of women peacekeepers from India in recent years arrived in Abei on Saturday to begin their deployment with the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abei (UNISFA). Abyei is a disputed area on the border of South Sudan and Sudan and has been granted "special administrative status".

Will have to work towards the goal of lasting peace

This platoon of Indian women peacekeepers will perform extensive security work. The team has been inducted into the mission area on 14 January. It will work towards the goal of lasting peace in Abyei over one year.

Several incidents of violence in Abei

India's Permanent Mission to the UN said earlier this month, "Her presence will be particularly welcome in Abyei, where the recent escalation of violence has raised challenging humanitarian concerns for women and children in the conflict zone." Have given."

The platoon is deployed in Abyei as part of the Indian battalion in UNISFA, which is India's largest single unit of women peacekeepers in a UN mission. In 2007, the first all-female contingent was deployed in Liberia. The team underwent training as peacekeepers in all aspects related to their mission, including patrolling, UN functioning, community engagement, language, and the mandate of the mission.
