With temperatures soaring across many parts of the country, air conditioners are working overtime to keep homes comfortable. If your AC is taking longer than usual to cool the room, it doesn't always indicate a technical fault. In many cases, the problem is simply due to incorrect settings.
Most users switch on their AC and leave it running without exploring its built-in cooling modes. By using the right mode and adjusting a few settings, you can cool your room much faster while also improving energy efficiency.
Use Turbo Mode for Faster Cooling
The quickest way to cool a room is by activating your AC's Turbo Mode (also called Powerful Mode in some models).
This feature is available in most modern split air conditioners and is specifically designed to deliver maximum cooling in the shortest possible time.
When Turbo Mode is enabled:
The compressor operates at maximum capacity.
The indoor fan runs at higher speed.
Cool air spreads rapidly throughout the room.
The desired temperature is reached much faster than in normal mode.
This makes Turbo Mode especially useful during extremely hot afternoons or when you return home after being outdoors.
Select the Right Temperature Setting
Many people believe that setting the AC temperature to 16°C or 18°C cools the room faster. In reality, this is a common misconception.
Experts recommend maintaining the temperature between 24°C and 26°C, which provides efficient cooling while reducing electricity consumption.
Setting extremely low temperatures:
Does not significantly speed up cooling.
Increases power consumption.
Places additional stress on the compressor.
May reduce the lifespan of the AC over time.
Increase Fan Speed Initially
If your air conditioner allows manual fan-speed adjustment, set it to High during the first 10–15 minutes after switching on the AC.
A higher fan speed helps distribute cool air evenly across the room, reducing the cooling time and creating a comfortable environment more quickly.
Once the room reaches the desired temperature, you can switch back to Auto or Medium fan speed for quieter operation and better energy efficiency.
Keep Doors and Windows Closed
One of the most common reasons behind slow cooling is warm air entering the room.
Before turning on your AC:
Close all doors and windows properly.
Draw curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight.
Minimize frequent opening of doors while the AC is running.
Preventing hot air from entering helps the air conditioner maintain the desired temperature more efficiently.
Additional Tips for Better AC Performance
To ensure maximum cooling during summer:
Clean the AC filters regularly.
Service the unit before the peak summer season.
Keep the outdoor unit free from dust and obstructions.
Avoid placing heat-generating appliances near the thermostat.
Proper maintenance not only improves cooling performance but also helps reduce electricity bills.
