Gold Rate Today: Gold Falls ₹4,000, Silver Drops ₹11,000 in 3 Days; Check Latest Prices

Gold and silver prices continued to decline in India on Thursday, October 22, 2026, extending their recent losses. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 24-carat gold fell by ₹1,411 per 10 grams to ₹1,42,694, while silver dropped by ₹7,006 per kilogram to ₹1,99,777.

Silver prices have slipped below the ₹2 lakh-per-kilogram mark for the first time since crossing that level in December 2025, according to the reported benchmark comparison. The decline comes amid pressure on precious metals from a stronger rupee, rising crude oil prices, and changes in the global economic outlook.

Gold Rate Today: Latest 24K Gold and Silver Prices

The latest IBJA evening benchmark rates for October 22 show that both precious metals recorded significant declines.

24-carat gold: ₹1,42,694 per 10 grams

Gold price decline: ₹1,411 per 10 grams from the previous available evening benchmark

Silver price: ₹1,99,777 per kilogram

Silver price decline: ₹7,006 per kilogram from the previous available evening benchmark

These are IBJA benchmark rates. They exclude GST and jewellery-making charges, so the final price paid by customers at a jewellery store may be higher.

Gold and Silver Prices Fall Over Recent Trading Sessions

Gold and silver have faced selling pressure over recent trading sessions. Comparing the October 22 evening rates with the October 19 evening benchmarks, gold declined by ₹3,250 per 10 grams, while silver fell by ₹8,973 per kilogram.

The exact fall depends on the comparison dates and the rate session used. IBJA publishes morning and evening benchmarks, and prices may differ across market sources.

The decline in silver has attracted particular attention because the metal has fallen below the ₹2 lakh-per-kilogram threshold. However, a move below a round-number level does not necessarily mean prices will continue to fall.

Why Are Gold and Silver Prices Falling?

Market commentary has linked the recent weakness in domestic precious metals to a stronger Indian rupee against the US dollar and elevated crude oil prices, which can influence inflation expectations and broader market sentiment.

Gold prices are also sensitive to changes in US interest rates, bond yields, and the dollar. The US Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate in September 2026 for the first time in three years, adding another factor for investors to consider when assessing gold's outlook.

At the same time, geopolitical tensions, including the US-Iran conflict, and wider economic uncertainty could support demand for gold as a safe-haven asset. These competing forces mean price volatility may continue.

Will Gold and Silver Prices Fall Further?

The near-term outlook for gold and silver remains uncertain. Further strength in the US dollar, interest-rate concerns, or sustained pressure in global commodity markets could weigh on precious metals. Conversely, geopolitical uncertainty or renewed safe-haven demand could provide support.

Investors should avoid basing buying or selling decisions on a single day's price movement. Those considering gold or silver as investments should assess their financial goals, risk tolerance, and investment horizon before acting.

Gold Buying Tips: Check Hallmark and Current Rates

Consumers planning to buy gold jewellery should take a few precautions:

1. Check the BIS hallmark: Look for the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark and the applicable purity marking. For hallmarked jewellery covered by the HUID system, verify the six-character Hallmark Unique Identification number through the BIS CARE app.

2. Confirm the day's gold rate: Check the latest benchmark price and compare it with the jeweller's quoted rate. Prices differ according to purity, including 24-carat, 22-carat, and 18-karat gold.

3. Check the final bill: Confirm the net gold weight, purity, making charges and GST before paying. Benchmark bullion prices generally do not include all retail charges.

With gold and silver prices under pressure, consumers should compare rates carefully and avoid assuming that a lower market benchmark automatically translates into the same reduction in a jewellery shop's final price.
