
The hearing in the 2008 serial blasts case in Ahmedabad is likely to be held today. The verdict, in this case, was to come only on February 2, but on January 30 itself, Special Court Judge AR Patel got infected with Corona, due to which the decision had to be postponed. Now, this decision is going to come today. This case is of 26 July 2008 when 21 serial blasts took place in the Ahmedabad Municipality area within an hour. This blast shook the entire country. The blast killed 56 people and injured more than 200. Never before had so many blasts happened in the country in such a short period. Within an hour, 21 blasts took place in Ahmedabad. Police had registered 20 FIRs in Ahmedabad, while another 15 FIRs were registered in Surat, where bombs were recovered from various places. The trial was held after the court merged all 35 FIRs, as the police investigation claimed that "they were part of a single conspiracy.
After this attack, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi had ordered the arrest of all the terrorists. A team of excellent officers was formed under the leadership of the current DGP of Gujarat, Ashish Bhatia. After the blast, the then PM Manmohan Singh had visited Ahmedabad on 27th.
30 terrorists caught in 19 days
After the arrival of Manmohan Singh, a team of Gujarat Police was formed on 28 July and in just 19 days 30 terrorists were caught and sent to jail. After this, the rest of the terrorists have been caught from time to time. Before the blasts in Ahmedabad, the same team of Indian Mujahideen carried out the blasts in Jaipur and Varanasi. The police of many states of the country were engaged in catching them, but they went on blasting one after the other. Serial blasts took place in Surat on the second day of the Ahmedabad blasts i.e. on 27th July, but due to a fault in the timer, these blasts could not happen.
Charge sheet prepared for 78 accused
