The ministry told Geo News that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has banned social media platforms on their orders. Pakistan has banned all social media apps across the country on Friday due to violent Islamic groups. According to Reuters, a telecommunications authority official said that the move has been taken to maintain the security system in the country. This action was taken after the Home Ministry sent a letter to the PTA chairman. The ministry in its letter urged the PTA to take immediate action. Abdul Razzaq, the section officer of the ministry, wrote in the letter, "There should be a complete ban on social media platforms across the country from 11 am to 3 pm on 16 April 2021".

Violent protests continue in Pakistan, this is the reason

According to various media reports, the move has been taken because of the anti-French protests in Pakistan. Law enforcement agencies in Lahore say the decision has been taken after Friday's prayers because of the possibility of violent demonstrations by the Tehreek-e-Labbak (TLP) party. TLP is demonstrating the arrest of its leader Saad Hussain Rizvi and the cartoon controversy against France. Pakistan's Imran Khan government had until 20 April to expel the French ambassador for publishing a cartoon of Prophet Mohammed, but before that, the police on Monday arrested the party's chief Saad Hussain Rizvi, whose Later the TLP started a nationwide protest.
