President Joe Biden on Wednesday reiterated America's commitment to giving India a permanent seat on the Security Council to ensure the credibility of the Council. Addressing a high-level meeting of the General Assembly, he said the United States supports increasing the number of both permanent and non-permanent representatives to the Council. This includes permanent seats for nations that we have long supported. He declared that America was committed to this important work.

America has always supported a permanent seat for India

Biden said his country has long expressed support for a permanent seat for India through various administrations in Washington. He also supports permanent seats for Japan and Germany. Biden said that I also believe that the time has come for this institution to become more inclusive so that it can better respond to the needs of today's world. He said the US supports permanent seats for countries in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean so that the council remains credible and effective.

Biden also mentioned Quad's role

Biden said the US also supports increasing the number of both permanent and non-permanent representatives of the council. No clear names have emerged from the countries of Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean for the permanent seat. Although Brazil, the largest country in South America, has submitted its claim. Biden also mentioned the role of the quad made up of India, the US, Japan, and Australia. In every field, we are finding new creative ways to work with partners to advance our shared interests, he added. During this, he also talked about giving more importance to the Quad countries and the Indo-Pacific region.
