Deepawali 2024: Confusion persists over the date of Deepawali, scholars from Kashi and Indore suggest different dates

There is still confusion about the date of Diwali. The scholars of Kashi say that the festival of Deepotsav will be celebrated all over the country on October 31. On the other hand, the religious scholars of Indore have decided to celebrate Diwali on October 1 instead of October 31. The confusion about the date of the festival has deepened due to different opinions of the scholars.

Opinion of the scholar of Kashi - Diwali will be celebrated on October 31

The Kashi Vidvat Karmakand Parishad has decided to celebrate Diwali on October 31. According to media reports, the National President of the Parishad, Acharya Ashok Dwivedi, says that Amavasya will start at 3.52 pm on October 31, and will last till 5.13 pm on November 1. After this, Pratipada will start and there is no provision for Diwali puja in Pratipada. Due to the night-long Amavasya on October 31, the auspicious time for Deepotsav and Kali Puja is being created.

According to the scholars of Kashi, Dhanteras will be celebrated on 29th October. Hanuman Janmotsav and Narak Chaturdashi will be celebrated on 30th October. Scholars say that according to all the Panchangs of Kashi, Deepawali will be celebrated on 31st October in the whole country.

Indore scholars have a different opinion.

While the scholars of Kashi are talking about celebrating Deepawali on 31st October, the scholars of Sanskrit colleges of Indore have a different opinion. In the meeting of scholars, it has been decided to celebrate Deepawali on 1st November instead of 31st October. Madhya Pradesh Jyotish and Vidvat Parishad called a meeting of scholars. In the meeting, the scholars said that when the situation of a festival arises for two days, then it has been said in the religious scriptures to accept the second day. Amavasya is the date of ancestors. Lakshmi puja should be done in the evening after the worship of ancestors, but worshipping ancestors after Lakshmi puja is not according to the scriptures.

According to media reports, Vedic Acharya Pandit Ramchandra Sharma Vedic of Madhya Pradesh Vedic and Vidvat Parishad says that this year on both October 31 and November 1, Amavasya Tithi is in Pradosh Kaal.
