Apple has unveiled the new iPad mini in India, bringing a major upgrade to its compact tablet lineup. The 2026 model features an 8.5-inch OLED display, the A20 Pro chip, a slimmer design, IP67 water and dust resistance, and support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

Apple iPad Mini 2026: 8.5-Inch OLED Display

One of the biggest upgrades is the new 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, replacing the 8.3-inch LCD screen of the previous generation. The OLED panel offers deeper blacks, improved contrast and support for the P3 wide colour gamut.

The display supports peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits for HDR content, while full-screen brightness reaches up to 600 nits. Apple has also introduced an optional nano-texture glass finish for the 256GB and 512GB variants to reduce glare in bright environments.

Despite the larger screen, the tablet maintains a compact footprint thanks to thinner bezels.

Slimmer Design With IP67 Water and Dust Resistance

The new iPad mini measures 5.4mm in thickness and weighs approximately 255 grams for the Wi-Fi model. It is available in Midnight and Starlight finishes.

Another notable addition is the IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. Under controlled laboratory conditions, this rating allows the device to withstand immersion in water up to one metre deep for up to 30 minutes. It does not mean the tablet is waterproof under every condition, so users should still take care around liquids.

Apple has also introduced an Acoustic Display system designed to improve audio output, with specially engineered woofers and tweeters integrated into the device.

A20 Pro Chip: Faster CPU, Graphics and AI Performance

The iPad mini 2026 is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built using a 2-nanometre process. According to Apple, the processor delivers up to 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance, graphics performance of up to 2.7 times that of the previous generation, and up to 4.5 times faster AI performance.

The 128GB and 256GB variants feature a five-core CPU, a seven-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. The 512GB model features a six-core CPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine.

These upgrades are designed to improve multitasking, gaming, creative applications and AI-powered workloads. Actual performance will vary depending on the app and task.

Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Improved Cameras

Apple has equipped the new iPad mini with its N1 wireless networking chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. These technologies are designed to improve wireless connectivity and the reliability of features such as AirDrop and AirPlay.

The front-facing 12MP Center Stage camera has been moved to the landscape edge, making it more convenient for video calls when the tablet is held horizontally. The rear camera is also 12MP and supports 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second.

The Wi-Fi + Cellular variants include Apple’s C2 cellular modem system. Apple says it can deliver up to 50% faster cellular data speeds compared with the previous generation, although real-world speeds depend on network conditions and the operator.
