Pakistan pulled off a remarkable one-wicket victory over England in the ODI tri-series at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on October 25, 2026. Shadab Khan delivered a career-defining performance, scoring an unbeaten 113 off 96 balls before sharing an unbroken 89-run last-wicket partnership with Haris Rauf to complete a dramatic chase.
Chasing England’s target of 242, Pakistan were struggling at 154/9 and still needed 88 runs to win. Shadab and Rauf then turned the match around, guiding Pakistan to 243/9 in 47.1 overs and securing their place in the tri-series final.
Shadab struck 13 fours and five sixes in his extraordinary innings. His century was the highest individual score by a batter at No. 8 or lower in men’s ODI cricket, while the partnership with Rauf set a record for the highest 10th-wicket stand in a successful men’s ODI chase.
England Score 241 as Ben Duckett Hits a Century
Batting first, England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs after losing early wickets. Ben Duckett anchored the innings with an impressive 105 off 111 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes.
Sam Curran provided support with 42 runs off 52 deliveries, while Gus Atkinson remained unbeaten on 36 off 28 balls.
Pakistan’s bowling attack was led by captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, who claimed four wickets for 46 runs. Arafat Minhas and Razaullah took two wickets each, helping restrict England to a total Pakistan eventually chased down in dramatic fashion.
Pakistan Collapse to 154/9 in the Chase
Pakistan’s chase got off to a difficult start as Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Babar Azam were dismissed early. The hosts slipped to 31/3, putting pressure on the middle order.
Wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig counterattacked with 32 off 22 balls, while Salman Ali Agha scored 26 off 49 deliveries. Hasan Nawaz added 15 runs, but England continued to take wickets at crucial moments.
Pakistan had lost six wickets at 103 before Arafat Minhas was dismissed for one. Salman Ali Agha fell at 122/7, and the dismissal of Shaheen Afridi and Razaullah left Pakistan reeling at 154/9.
With 88 runs still required and only one wicket remaining, England appeared to be on the verge of victory. Shadab Khan, however, had other plans.
Shadab Khan’s Unbeaten 113 Creates ODI History
Shadab showed composure under pressure before shifting gears to attack England’s bowlers. His unbeaten 113 came off 96 balls, featuring 13 fours and five sixes.
The innings was especially significant because Shadab became the first batter in men’s ODI history to score more than 100 runs while batting at No. 8 or lower. His performance surpassed the previous benchmark of 100 runs at that batting position.
Shadab combined calculated shot selection with aggressive strokeplay, keeping Pakistan’s hopes alive even as the required runs continued to mount.
His contribution was not just about the century. He also managed the strike effectively during the final-wicket stand, allowing Haris Rauf to concentrate on staying at the crease.
Shadab and Haris Rauf Build Record 89-Run Partnership
The decisive moment came when Shadab and Haris Rauf joined forces for an unbeaten 89-run partnership for the 10th wicket.
Shadab contributed 81 runs during the stand, while Rauf scored an unbeaten seven off 19 balls. One additional run came through extras.
The partnership surpassed the previous record for the highest 10th-wicket partnership in a successful men’s ODI chase, which had stood at 64 runs since the 1975 World Cup.
Rauf played a crucial supporting role by defending his wicket and giving Shadab the opportunity to score at the other end. Their contrasting contributions helped Pakistan complete one of the most dramatic finishes in ODI cricket.
Pakistan eventually reached the target in 47.1 overs, winning by one wicket with 17 balls remaining.
Pakistan Qualify for the ODI Tri-Series Final
The victory secured Pakistan’s place in the final of the ODI tri-series. The hosts recorded their third consecutive win in the competition, while England suffered their third defeat in a row.
Pakistan will face either England or Sri Lanka in the final, depending on the remaining results and tournament standings.
The result also highlighted Pakistan’s ability to recover from a difficult position, with Shadab’s batting and Rauf’s composure proving decisive in the closing stages.
