India continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, as the country’s athletes delivered three gold-medal performances on Wednesday, October 21. Ayush Verma opened the day with gold in the men’s F53 shot put, Praveen Kumar won the men’s T64 high jump, and Sachin Khilari retained his title in the men’s F46 shot put.

Indian athletes also added medals in archery, sprinting and other events, extending the country’s growing medal haul. The standout achievement in athletics was India’s complete podium sweep in the men’s F46 shot put, where Indian athletes won gold, silver and bronze.

India’s gold-medal winners on October 21 included:

Ayush Verma: Gold in the men’s F53 shot put.

Praveen Kumar: Gold in the men’s T64 high jump, setting a new Games record.

Sachin Khilari: Gold in the men’s F46 shot put, completing an Indian podium sweep.

These performances strengthened India’s position in the athletics events and highlighted the depth of the country’s para-athletics team.

Ayush Verma wins shot put gold with an 8.16m throw

Ayush Verma secured the gold medal in the men’s F53 shot put with a best throw of 8.16 metres. He narrowly defeated Iran’s Alireza Hemami, who recorded 8.09 metres to take silver. Kazakhstan’s Makhambet Serikkaliyev finished third with a throw of 6.81 metres.

The victory marked Ayush’s second medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games. He had previously won bronze in the men’s F53/54 javelin throw.

The F53 classification covers athletes with eligible physical impairments that affect their ability to compete in seated throwing events. Ayush’s gold added another highlight to India’s strong showing in para-athletics.

Praveen Kumar breaks his own Games record in high jump

Praveen Kumar won gold in the men’s T64 high jump after clearing 2.05 metres. In the process, he surpassed his previous Asian Para Games record of 2.02 metres.

His compatriot Banti secured the silver medal with a personal-best jump of 1.92 metres, giving India a one-two finish in the event.

The T64 classification is used for athletes with eligible lower-limb impairments who compete in standing track and field events. Praveen’s record-breaking performance added another gold to India’s para-athletics campaign.

Sachin Khilari retains F46 shot put gold as India sweeps medals

Sachin Khilari successfully defended his title in the men’s F46 shot put, winning gold with a Games-record throw of 15.87 metres on his final attempt.

Mohammed Yasser claimed silver with 15.06 metres, while Parveen won bronze with 14.94 metres. The result gave India all three medals in the event.

Khilari’s performance was particularly notable because he improved on the previous Games record of 15.67 metres. His victory continued India’s success in the field events at the competition.

Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag win silver in compound archery

India also earned a silver medal in the women’s compound doubles archery event through Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag.

The Indian pair lost the gold-medal match 141–150 to China’s Xu Xueqing and Zhao Jing. Despite falling short of gold, their silver added to India’s medal count on a productive day for the contingent.

India’s medal tally at the Asian Para Games 2026

India’s medal tally continued to change as events progressed on October 21. A report published during the day placed India fifth in the standings with 47 medals: 12 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze. Later updates may reflect additional results, so the official medal table should be checked before publishing a final end-of-day total.

India’s performance has been driven largely by para-athletics, with medals also coming from shooting, swimming, judo, archery, powerlifting and other sports.

What India’s performance means

The three gold medals from Ayush Verma, Praveen Kumar and Sachin Khilari underline India’s strength in para-athletics. Praveen’s record-breaking high jump and Khilari’s successful title defence were among the day’s major highlights, while the F46 shot put podium sweep demonstrated India’s depth in the event.

With more competitions scheduled in Aichi-Nagoya, Indian athletes will continue to look for opportunities to add to the medal tally and improve the country’s position in the standings.
