Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute: The situation tense in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills, Assam stops fuel supply

Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute Tension continued in Meghalaya and Assam on Thursday following the firing incident on the Assam-Meghalaya border. Only vehicles with Meghalaya registration were allowed to enter the state. Six people, including a forest guard, were killed in violence on Tuesday in a disputed area on the border of the two states.

 

After this Assam transporters stopped the fuel supply to Meghalaya. At the same time, the Meghalaya government is making arrangements for police protection for trucks carrying essential commodities and oil tankers coming from Assam.

 

The situation became tense in Jaintia Hills

Following the firing incident at the Assam-Meghalaya border, the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union said it has stopped the transportation of fuel to Meghalaya. The association has sent letters to PSU oil marketing companies informing them of their decision not to refuel tankers.

 

The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union said, 'We have been informed that the situation in Meghalaya, especially in Ri-Bhoi, Khasi Hills, and Jaintia Hills districts, continues to be abnormal. Our members are afraid to supply petroleum products in those areas.

 

Mobile internet and data services have been suspended

The Meghalaya government on Thursday extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services in seven districts till Saturday morning.

 

Shillong falls in the East Khasi Hills district. Meanwhile, the District Deputy Commissioner in a statement clarified that there is no shortage of petrol or diesel in the district because of long queues at various petroleum outlets due to rumors of shortage of petrol and diesel in the state.

 

The statement said that the concerns expressed by the oil companies, distributors, and tanker drivers from outside the state are being addressed to ensure that the supply of petroleum reaches the area of ​​the district and does not cause inconvenience to the public.
