The BJP has suffered a setback in the results of assembly by-elections in 13 states that came before Diwali. On one hand, it has lost one Lok Sabha and one assembly seat in Himachal, while TMC has dealt a blow in West Bengal by doing a clean sweep. Out of the total 29 assembly seats by-elections, BJP had contested on 22 but seems to be winning only 8 seats. On one hand, Congress has given a clean sweep to the BJP in Himachal. At the same time, in Rajasthan too, he has waved his flag in the Dhariyawad seat, which is called the stronghold of the BJP. Apart from this, he has also won from Vallabhnagar seat, which has always been a stronghold of Congress.
BJP worried about Congress's comeback in Himachal
Out of a total of 3 seats (Fatehpur, Jubbal Kotkhai, Arki) in Himachal Pradesh, BJP has to face defeat on all. Not only this, but he has also lost his won Kotkhai seat to Congress. Congress candidate Rohit Thakur won here. Rohit Thakur got 29447 votes. While independent candidate Chetan Bragta came second with 23344 votes. Whereas BJP candidate Neelam Saraik got only 2584 votes and even her deposit was forfeited. Forfeiture of bail on the won seat is a big disgrace for the BJP and may raise questions on the state leadership in the days to come.
Lost in Mandi Lok Sabha too, lost a 31-year-old seat in MP
Congress's Pratibha Singh has also won the Mandi Lok Sabha seat. She is the wife of former CM of the state Virbhadra Singh. This seat was earlier held by the BJP and fell vacant after the death of Ramswaroop Sharma. Talking about Madhya Pradesh, the situation has been satisfactory for the BJP here and the party has won two out of three seats, Johat and Prithvipur. Apart from this, she seems to be losing the seat in Raigaon, where she was holding for the last 31 years. However, the party's candidate Dnyaneshwar Patil is leading from the Khandwa Lok Sabha seat.
Shock to BJP in Bengal, losing even on the seats it won
In West Bengal too, the BJP has suffered a crushing defeat and has also lost two of its seats. Not only this, the margin of victory of Trinamool Congress in three seats has been close to 1 lakh. This shows how big a defeat the BJP has to face. In the Dinhata by-election, TMC's Udayan Guha won by a record margin of 1,64,089, while party's Sovandeb Chattopadhyay won from Khardah by a margin of 93,832 votes. TMC has also captured the Gosaba seat in Bengal.
Good news has been received from Assam, NDA's victory over all five
NDA has got success in all of the by-elections of 5 assembly seats in Assam. The BJP had landed on three of these, while its ally UPPL had landed in two seats in the election season. The BJP or its allies have won all of the 10 by-elections in Northeast India. On the other hand, YSR Congress candidate Dr. Dasari has won from the Badvel assembly seat of Andhra Pradesh, while Congress and BJP's deposits have been forfeited.
