Lucknow, Feb 3 (IANS) A Bahujan Samaj Party legislator in Uttar Pradesh and wife and son of a sitting Rajya Sabha MP Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Legislative Councillor Hargovind Singh, Damyanti Kishore, the wife of BSP's founder member Jugul Kishore, who is now at war with party supremo Mayawati, her son Saurabh Singh 'Sonu' joined the BJP in presence of state unit chief Laxmikant Bajpai and other leaders.
Expressing faith in the BJP and "inspired" by the development plank of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they said they had come to the party fold without any precondition and to contribute to the strengthening of the party in the state.
Wife of sitting NCP legislator and former UP minister Fateh Bahadur Singh and Gorakhpur Zila Panchayat chairman Sadhna Singh and their son Kunwar Vishwan Singh also joined the BJP.
A BJP leader told IANS that the entry of the wives of these leaders should be treated as their joining as well as they themselves had not done so for fear of disqualification under anti-defection laws. Some other leaders also joined the BJP with hundreds of their supporters, the party spokesman said.
