Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are exploring a potential trade for England all-rounder Liam Livingstone from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the IPL 2027 season. However, Hyderabad have not yet decided whether they are willing to part ways with the big-hitting English cricketer.
According to a Cricbuzz report, the proposed Liam Livingstone trade involves multiple franchises and players, making the discussions more complicated than a straightforward CSK-SRH exchange. Another northern franchise is also reportedly interested in acquiring the England international.
With the IPL 2027 retention deadline approaching on November 17, discussions surrounding Livingstone's future are expected to gather momentum.
Liam Livingstone IPL Trade: Why CSK Are Interested
Liam Livingstone was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹13 crore at the IPL 2026 auction after Royal Challengers Bengaluru released him.
Before joining SRH, Livingstone was purchased by RCB for ₹8.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
However, his campaign with Hyderabad did not go according to expectations. The England all-rounder managed just 15 runs in two appearances during IPL 2026 before losing his place in the playing combination.
CSK are now reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing Livingstone into their squad for IPL 2027.
Khaleel Ahmed's Name Emerges in CSK-SRH Trade Discussions
Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has also emerged as a possible name in the discussions involving CSK and SRH.
Some reports suggest Chennai could be willing to include Khaleel in a potential exchange for Livingstone. However, this possibility remains unconfirmed.
One reason for uncertainty is that Sunrisers Hyderabad recently acquired experienced left-arm fast bowler T Natarajan, who shares a similar bowling profile with Khaleel.
Cricbuzz has also reported that the discussions involve another CSK player apart from Khaleel Ahmed, with multiple franchises and players potentially involved in the negotiations.
Consequently, the exact composition of the proposed trade remains unclear.
SRH Yet to Make Final Decision on Liam Livingstone
Sunrisers Hyderabad are reportedly still evaluating their options regarding Livingstone.
The franchise must determine whether retaining the England all-rounder for another season, trading him to another team or releasing him would best suit its squad requirements.
No official agreement has been announced by CSK or SRH regarding the potential transfer.
The trade discussions remain at the negotiation stage, and the outcome could depend on player combinations, squad balance, and franchise requirements.
IPL 2027 Retention Deadline: November 17
The IPL 2027 player retention deadline is scheduled for November 17, 2026.
Franchises are expected to finalise their retention and trade decisions before submitting their squad lists.
The deadline is particularly significant for Livingstone, as his future with SRH could become clearer once the franchises complete their retention-related discussions.
The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled for December 16 in Goa.
Hardik Pandya Trade Talks Also Continue
Apart from the Liam Livingstone trade discussions, another major IPL transfer story involves Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya.
Reports suggest discussions surrounding Pandya's potential trade are at an advanced stage and involve multiple franchises.
However, Mumbai Indians have not finalised a deal, and the situation remains unresolved.
The developments involving Livingstone and Pandya indicate that several IPL franchises are exploring squad changes ahead of the 2027 season.
Liam Livingstone IPL 2027 Trade: What Happens Next?
The coming days could be important for the future of Liam Livingstone as CSK continue to explore a possible trade and SRH assess their options.
With multiple franchises and players reportedly involved, the final arrangement may differ from the initially discussed CSK-SRH exchange.
For now, Liam Livingstone's potential move to Chennai Super Kings remains unconfirmed, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are yet to announce a decision on the England all-rounder.
