Budget 2021: Finance Minister Sitharaman spoke for less than last time, know-how long budget speech was given

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday presented the Union Budget for the financial year 2021-22. In this budget, several announcements were made for various sectors including agriculture, banking, railways. However, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke much less this time than her previous budget speech. This time he gave an hour and 50 minutes long speech. Last time, in the second budget of the second term of the Modi government, the Finance Minister gave a speech of 2 hours 40 minutes. That speech was the longest budget speech.

 

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's budget speech started in Parliament at 11 am on Monday, which lasted from 12 noon to 50 minutes. In this way, she spoke for less than two hours. Nirmala Sitharaman spoke for two hours and 17 minutes in the budget presented for the financial year 2019-20. At the same time, the last time he finished the budget speech which started at 11 am at 1:40 pm.

Apart from this, the budget of the first term of the Modi government was presented by the then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. He also gave a budget speech for over two hours. In 2014, Jaitley's speech started at 11 am, which ran for 10 minutes. In this manner, he read the budget speech for two hours and 10 minutes.

 

Looking at the budget speeches by words, the speech given by Finance Minister Manmohan Singh in 1991 was 18,700 words. Indira Gandhi gave the shortest speech as Finance Minister. Morarji Desai's speeches averaged 10,000 words, while YB Chavan's speeches averaged 9,300 words.

 

Sitharaman read the general budget from the tablet

Because of the impact of Covid-19, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Monday, readout of the tabloid instead of paper documents on the budget for the fiscal year 2021-22.
