Cabinet Meeting: Shopping on GeM portal crosses one lakh crore rupees, small businessmen benefit

After the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur shared information about the issues and decisions placed in it. During the press conference, he said about the GeM portal that there has been a big change in it and there has been a huge increase in purchases. Presenting the data, he said that self-help groups, MSMEs, and small traders have got a lot of benefits after the opening of the government e-marketplace GeM.

Anurag Thakur said that in the financial year 2017-2018, there was a purchase of Rs 6,220 crore from this portal, while in the financial year 2021-2022, the purchase increased to Rs 1.06 lakh crore. He said that at present 70 percent of MSMEs and small traders sell their products through the GeM portal. The Union Minister said that this growth during the five years on the portal shows that the system has become more accountable and transparent.

 

Co-operative societies will be able to buy

 

The cabinet meeting decided to expand the jurisdiction of the GeM portal. Talking in this regard, the Union Minister said that now cooperative societies will be able to buy from the government e-marketplace GeM portal. He said that 8.54 lakh registered cooperative societies in the country and 27 crore members associated with them would benefit from this decision.

 

Tribals exempted in CRPF

 

The Union Cabinet in its meeting gave relaxation in educational qualification for the post of constable for recruitment of native tribal youth as constables in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) through recruitment rally from interior areas of Bijapur, Dantewada, and Sukma districts of Chhattisgarh. Also allowed to leave.
