India enjoyed another strong medal haul at the Asian Games 2026, winning eight medals on Day 9, including four silver and four bronze. Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav produced a double podium finish in men's javelin, while Murali Sreeshankar and Gulveer Singh also secured silver medals.
Esha Singh added another silver in the women's 25m pistol, while Parul Chaudhary, Vithya Ramraj and Pincky Balhara won bronze medals in athletics and kurash.
With the eight-medal haul, India's overall tally moved to 45 medals — four gold, 20 silver and 21 bronze. India remained 12th in the overall medal table.
The javelin competition delivered a memorable double podium for India, with Yashvir registering a personal best of 85.72 metres for silver and Rohit producing an 84.35m throw for bronze. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage won gold with 88.55m.
Sreeshankar and Gulveer Add Silver Medals
Murali Sreeshankar won silver in the men's long jump with a best effort of 8.07m.
Gulveer Singh also claimed silver in the men's 1500m after clocking 3:36.72. It was Gulveer's second silver medal of the Games.
Esha Singh Wins Silver After Shoot-Off
Esha Singh secured silver in the women's 25m pistol after a closely contested final.
Esha and China's Xiao Jiaruixuan were tied on 38 points, forcing a shoot-off to decide the gold medal. Xiao prevailed in the shoot-off, leaving Esha with silver.
Esha had earlier qualified for the final with a score of 580. Manu Bhaker did not progress to the medal round.
Parul Chaudhary and Vithya Ramraj Win Bronze
Parul Chaudhary added another bronze medal for India in the women's 5000m, finishing in 15:14.61.
Vithya Ramraj also claimed bronze in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 54.75 seconds. She also improved on the long-standing Indian national record associated with P.T. Usha's 55.42-second mark from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Pincky Balhara completed India's bronze-medal haul by finishing third in the women's -78kg Kurash category.
India Crush Bangladesh 10-0 in Men's Hockey
India also completed a perfect Pool A campaign in men's hockey with a 10-0 victory over Bangladesh.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick, while Shilanand Lakra scored twice. Jugraj Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Sanjay and Mandeep Singh also found the net as India completed five wins from five matches.
The result took India to the top of Pool A and set up a semi-final against Pakistan on October 1. Malaysia and South Korea will contest the other semi-final.
