New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) Well-known comedian Kapil Sharma is being roped in by the Delhi election commission to motivate voters, especially the youth, to cast votes on April 10 for the Lok Sabha election.
Sharma would join two other celebrities, cricketer Virat Kohli and film star Soha Ali Khan, to woo the electorate to go to the polling booth that day, said an election official Friday.
Addressing a press conference here Friday evening, Sharma said: "Every citizen should come forward and participate in the polls."
He said there is a need to inculcate awareness among the people about their voting rights and to understand the importance of their vote.
"People need to understand that only if they come out of their homes and vote for the right person that a strong democracy can be formed," said Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi's chief electoral officer Vijay Dev said that various new initiatives are being taken to woo the voters in the capital.
"Special voting awareness campaigns among the women residing in rural parts of Delhi are being organized," he said.
"We want the election to be like a festival day in which every citizen should come forward and exercise their voting right," Dev told IANS.
