The world's largest vaccine producer Serum Institute of India (SII) is about to sign a corona vaccine-coveyshield supply contract with the central government. Accordingly, a dose will be given to the government for 250 rupees.
The Serum Institute of India (SII) has sought emergency approval for CoveShield in India and government sources have indicated that a decision may be taken soon. The process of emergency approval has already been expedited. If everything goes well, the vaccination will start in the country since January. Coveshield is developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. Serum Institute in India has done its phase-2/3 trials.
SII Chief Executive Officer Adar Poonawala had earlier also said that a dose of the vaccine would be available in the private market in India for Rs 1,000. A large scale supply deal with the government will be at a low cost. It was being said from the beginning that this vaccine would be made available to the government for 3 dollars, ie, Rs 225 to Rs 250. Poonawala also said that his first focus is on supplying vaccines in India.
Pfizer also ready to deal with government
More than 97 lakh corona positive cases have been reported in India. After America, India is second in the world in terms of positive cases. At this time, Pfizer's vaccine has also sought emergency approval in India. However, the price of his vaccine is expected to be around Rs 1,450 per dose. Pfizer has said that if there is a supply deal on a large scale by the government, then the price can also be reduced. At present, no decision has been taken on this.
Bharat Biotech has also asked for emergency approval
On the other hand, Bharat Biotech, a Hyderabad based company that manufactures indigenous vaccine Kovaxin, has also sought emergency approval from the government for its vaccine. The vaccine has been developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV). There is currently no statement on what its price will be. Nevertheless, the dose of this vaccine is also estimated to be Rs 300-400 per dose.
