The new wave of coronavirus epidemic in many countries including China, and America has increased the concern of the world. Infection of the new variant of Corona has started appearing in many states of India as well. In such a situation, vigilance has been increased regarding the Kovid-19 virus, and passengers coming from abroad are being screened at the airport itself. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has also alerted the people about this latest wave of Corona. According to health experts, more than 90 percent of the people in India have received both doses of corona vaccine. In such a situation, the possibility of getting a serious patient of Kovid is less. But there are still several children in India who have not got any vaccine for Corona. In such a situation, the question is being raised again and again whether this new variant can be so dangerous for children.
Dr. Jugal Kishore, Head of Community Medicine, at Safdarjung Hospital, told Amar Ujala that if the earlier waves of Corona are assessed in India, it comes to the fore that children are not much affected by them. Whether it is Delta, Kappa, Alpha variant of Corona or many sub-variants of Omicron have come, but their effect on children was very less. One of the major reasons for this is that children have better immunity than adults. At present, in the case of India, the effect of Omicron's sub-variant BF.7 may be different from that of China. Omicron's BF.7 variant is wreaking havoc in China, where such situations have happened because of the Zero Covid policy. There, despite several waves of the corona, people could not get infected and immunity could not develop in them. Apart from this, the Chinese vaccine was also less effective.
Dr. Kishore says that in the first wave of Kovid, children remained safe and elders were more affected. In just two years, adults have been vaccinated, but most children have not been able to get vaccinated. That's why there is a need to be more alert about these children. Today, more than 90 percent of the country's population has gotten both the corona vaccines. Apart from this, people who have not taken the corona vaccine have also been infected in some waves of corona and especially during the Omicron variant in the third wave. In such a situation, most people have developed immunity regarding corona. At the same time, hybrid immunity has also been formed due to the generation of vaccine-generated immunity and pathogenic immunity generated due to infection. But some cases have also come to notice that the children whose parents have not taken even a single dose of corona are getting infected. In such a situation, if the corona infection spreads again in the country, then the risk of children of a large population getting infected by it will increase.
How serious is a corona for children?
According to research done by many organizations in the country and abroad, the immune system of most children works faster than adults in producing antibodies against the coronavirus. It has also been found in many types of research that the target of children's antibodies is the spike protein of the virus. It is through the spike protein that the virus opens the door to enter the cell. However, the immunity of a child of every age is different, as compared to a child living in the lap, the immunity of a walking child is stronger. In most cases, mild symptoms or no symptoms of corona are seen in children. However, children can play the role of a carrier in spreading the virus.
Active cases of corona in India too
