Covid cases have started declining once again in the country. The Health Ministry said on Friday that 609 new cases of Covid have been registered in India, while the number of active cases of infection has decreased to 3,368.

According to the ministry data updated at 8 am, three people have died due to the infection in the last 24 hours, including two cases from Kerala and one from Karnataka.

Strict monitoring of central and state government

Official sources said 841 new cases were reported on December 31, 2023, after December 5, which is 0.2 percent of the peak cases reported in May 2021.

Most of the total active cases are recovering in-home quarantine. States have been asked by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to regularly monitor and report district-wise cases of influenza-like illness and severe respiratory illness across all health facilities to early detect the trend of increasing cases.

"Currently available data suggests that there is some increase in cases and mortality due to the JN.1 sub-variant," sources said.

220 crore vaccine doses completed

More than 45 million people across the country have been infected and more than 5.3 lakh have died since the pandemic began in early 2020.

According to the ministry's website, the number of people who have recovered from the disease is more than 4.4 crore, with the national recovery rate being 98.81 percent. According to the website, so far 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country.
