
After months of torrential rains, the monsoon is now beginning to withdraw from North India. The monsoon has begun its retreat. However, some states are still unlikely to see any relief from the rains. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert today, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods have caused widespread devastation in the hilly states. The hilly states will also soon see some relief from the rains. Meanwhile, heavy rains are expected in the plains, including Delhi, today, bringing relief from the humid heat and potentially bringing a drop in temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon has withdrawn from parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Meanwhile, the monsoon is continuing its withdrawal in other states. In addition to Delhi, heavy rains are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, and parts of Gujarat for the next three days.
Devastation in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand
Rain has wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand has received 22 percent more rainfall than normal so far. Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh reported 46 cloudbursts, triggering over 140 landslides and 97 flash floods.
Rain fell overnight in Himachal and Uttarakhand. Five people were swept away by the heavy downpour. Eighteen people died in Dehradun, and over 500 are feared stranded. The downpour will continue in both states today.
Rain will continue for three days in Delhi-NCR.
The weather is expected to remain pleasant in Delhi-NCR for the next three days. Dense clouds will cover Delhi and the surrounding areas today. Many parts of Delhi-NCR may experience heavy rain on September 16, 17, and 19. Temperatures will drop after the rain, resulting in significantly cooler weather.
What will the weather be like in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar?
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, in Uttar Pradesh today. Over the next 48 hours, heavy rain will occur in more than 30 districts of the state, including Lucknow. The IMD has issued an orange rain alert for Ayodhya, Gonda, Barabanki, Amethi, Rae Bareli, and Sultanpur, along with surrounding districts.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow rain alert for several areas, including Gopalganj, West Champaran, East Champaran, Siwan, and Saran. Heavy rain is expected in several surrounding districts, except Patna and Gaya.
Alert in Maharashtra
The Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rain in several districts of Maharashtra. An orange rain alert has been issued for Thane, Raigad, Satara, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, including Pune. A yellow rain alert has been issued for the surrounding areas, including Mumbai. Light rain is also expected in Nashik, Palghar, and Nagpur.
