Crisis in Sri Lanka: New Presidential election on July 20; Speaker dismisses speculation of Rajapaksa fleeing the country

The dates for the presidential election have been announced in Sri Lanka amid the ongoing crisis for the last three months. Parliament Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abhaywardene said that the new President will be elected on July 20 in the country. Before this, Gotabaya will resign on July 13 and the session of Parliament will be called on July 15.

 

On the other hand, there was speculation about President Gotabaya Rajapaksa leaving the country. The speaker has dismissed these speculations. He said that Gotabaya is in the country. Mahinda Yapa said in an interview that President Gotabaya has fled the country. However, when the controversy escalated, he said that the President is in the country, I had given the first statement by mistake.

Another video surfaced on Sunday, which claimed to be a secret passage in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The people protesting claim that the President has fled the country by this intelligence route after saving his life. This bunker has been built on the first floor of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Before leaving the bunker, a wooden cupboard has been fitted here. Its structure is such that no one can know it at once.

 

The instruction of the missing Gotabaya came

 

Gotabaya issued a directive to Sri Lankan officials on Sunday. Rajapaksa has directed the officials to expedite the work of unloading and supplying the gas as the first ship carrying the gas will arrive at Kerawalpitiya on Sunday. According to Sri Lankan media, the second ship carrying 3,740 metric tonnes of gas will arrive on 11 July and the third 3,200 metric tonnes will arrive on 15 July.

 

Opposition parties held a meeting for the new government

 

Here, the opposition parties have started preparations for the formation of a new government in Sri Lanka. According to sources, the main opposition party Samagi Jan Balvegaya (SJB), and its allies may convene a special party meeting soon to form an all-party government. The President of Sri Lanka can become a speaker for a month

 

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe resigned from the post when the pressure increased after the people's occupation of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He gave this information on social media. Before the resignation, the PM had called an emergency meeting, in which it was proposed to make Assembly Speaker Mahinda Yappa Abhaywardene interim President. According to the Sri Lankan constitution, if the president resigns, the speaker can become the interim president for one month.

 

After occupying the presidential residence, protesters surrounded the house of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe late last night, after which Wickremesinghe announced his resignation. After this, Sri Lanka's Chief Defense Staff Shavendra Silva appealed to the protesters to cooperate with the soldiers to maintain peace.
