Cyclone Michaung: After the devastation caused by Cyclone Michaung in Chennai, schools and colleges remained closed even today, and examinations were also postponed.

Cyclonic storm Michong has now weakened. Before hitting the coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, it caused massive devastation in four districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, the devastating scene of which is still visible. Schools and colleges also remained closed on Thursday and half-yearly examinations in schools have been postponed. Three people have died due to a wall collapse in Balacherry area of Chennai. India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrityunjan Mohapatra said that after hitting the coast, Cyclone Michong has gradually started weakening.

 

The administration is busy helping the victims: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a social media post that the administration is working day and night to help the victims in the cyclone-affected areas. Relief and rescue operations will continue until normalcy is restored. Expressing deep sorrow over the deaths due to the cyclone, he expressed deep condolences to their families.

 

 

The issue raised in Lok Sabha also

During Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, DMK member TR Baalu raised the issue of Cyclone Michong and demanded that the floods caused by it be declared a national disaster.

 

Stalin asked for Rs 5,060 crore from the Centre.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate assistance of Rs 5,060 crore from the Center for the damage caused by Michong and for relief and rescue operations. Also requested to send a central team. More than 40 thousand people in camps: CM said, 372 relief camps have been set up in the affected districts, where 41,400 people are taking shelter. There is still waterlogging at 800 places in the four affected districts.
