Rishabh Pant's leadership abilities will be tested in the IPL match against Gujarat Titans here on Wednesday. Delhi will expect a good performance from the bowlers on their home ground. Delhi had to face a 67-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in its last match at home, whereas before that the team had been winning two matches.
Pant made a strategic mistake
Captain Pant had made many strategic mistakes against Hyderabad. They won the toss and decided to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. His guess regarding dew was not correct. He handed the ball to Lalit Yadav in the second over. This gave Hyderabad a chance to start aggressively. Hyderabad made a record score of 125 runs without loss in the first six overs of the powerplay. Later in batting, while chasing 267 runs, Pant could only score 44 runs in 35 balls. While chasing such a big target, Delhi openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner needed to give an aggressive start but both could not succeed. Although young batsman Jack Fraser McGurk played a brilliant innings of 65 runs in 18 balls, he did not get full support from the other end. Abhishek Porel tried to provide some support by scoring 42 runs in 22 balls. The batsmen of Hyderabad had taken great notice of the bowlers of Delhi.
Ishant may get a chance in place of Nortje
The boundary of Ferozeshah Kotla ground is small, hence the bowlers of the host team will also be tested against Gujarat. The team's fast bowler Anrich Nortje is not in form at all this season. Experienced Ishant Sharma can return in this match, who did not play in the last match due to a back strain. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been the best bowler for Delhi so far this season. Has taken 10 wickets in five matches and his economy rate was 7.60. He also could not do better against Hyderabad. There were eight of his balls on which no runs were scored but the maximum number of seven sixes were hit on his balls.
Gujarat hopes for a big innings from Captain Gill
There is no consistency in the performance of the Gujarat team under the leadership of Shubman Gill, but the three-wicket win against Punjab Kings in the last match would have boosted the morale of the team. He would like to maintain the winning streak. A big innings will be expected from Captain Gill. Sai Sudarshan, David Miller, and Azmatullah Omerzai will also look to contribute with the bat. Rahul Tewatia will again try to hit big shots at the end of the innings. In bowling, a lot will be on the experienced Mohit Sharma, Noor Ahmed, and Rashid Khan.
The probable playing 11 of both the teams is as follows...
Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Jack Fraser McGurk, Rishabh Pant (captain and wicketkeeper), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar.
