Delhi Encroachment Update: Land encroachment will be monitored from the sky in Delhi, in agreement with ISRO

Posted on 25th Apr 2022 10:26 am by rohit kumar

Taking a big step to free Delhi from encroachment and illegal occupation, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has tied up with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for this purpose. With the help of ISRO, DDA will also ensure the protection of its vacant land and start the process of identifying and freeing it wherever illegal occupation or encroachment has taken place. Work has started in this direction.

It is worth mentioning that illegal occupations and encroachments have spoiled the map of Delhi itself. About 400 plots of DDA alone have slums and most of the unauthorized colonies are also settled on government land. To stop this cycle of illegal occupation and encroachment, DDA has now decided to resort to technical help.

According to the information, DDA has started the Land Information Management System (LIMS) for the proper management of land records. This will include major activities including land records management, encroachment management, and monitoring of demolition activities.

It is being told that all the vacant land is being geo-referenced. In the first phase, DDA has selected more than 4000 plots for this. Apart from this, to monitor the encroachment, from time to time, other technical assistance including taking satellite photos will also be taken.

Digitized on 1500 layout plans

DDA has also digitized the layout plans of around 1500 colonies, covering the planned areas of Delhi. All these maps have been prepared with the help of satellite images. All the maps and layout plans have been made available on the DDA website. Now with the help of these, verification of characteristics, dimensions, land use, etc. can be done in respect of each plot and colony on the GIS platform.

Seriousness about public grievances

DDA officials informed that a robust system of mobile applications and web-enabled applications has been put in place for redressal of public grievances. It will also soon be integrated with other centralized systems of the Central Government - Centralized Public Grievance Address and Monitoring System (CPGRM) and LG Listening Post.

The grievance redressal mechanism of STF (Special Task Force) to prevent encroachment on public land is also an additional feature of the grievance redressal system. In the last two years, online resolution of 132049 and 60187 cases of other complaints has been done through STF.
