Criminal cases have been registered under UAPA and sedition in connection with the violence in Delhi during the tractor parade. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has been entrusted with the investigation in this case.
The Delhi Police press release said that the role of organizations and individuals present in the country and outside the country will be investigated in the violence on 26 January.
On January 26, violent clashes between police and protesters were witnessed in several parts of Delhi, including the ITO, during a tractor rally organized by farmers' organizations.
During this time a person was also killed on ITO. Nearly 40 farmer organizations have been protesting against the borders of Delhi for two months against the three new agricultural laws brought by the central government. In this connection, a tractor rally was organized on the occasion of Republic Day on 26 January.
A route was decided by the police for the rally. But a large number of youth broke barricades and entered the parts which were not fixed under the route.
A group also hoisted a religious flag over the Red Fort, sparking a huge controversy.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the largest platform of protesting farmers, issued a statement expressing regret over this anarchy and said that such movements harm the movement and they condemn it.
But now Delhi Police has also filed UAPA and sedition cases in these cases of violence.
What is UAPA
UAPA means the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act is mainly imposed for activities related to terrorism.
This law was introduced in 1967 to curb illegal activities in India.
Its main objective was to give more powers to the government to stop activities that challenge the integrity and sovereignty of India.
According to section 15 of the UAPA Act, to spread terror or to spread terror in India or abroad or any section of the public to jeopardize or jeopardize the unity, integrity, security, economic security, or sovereignty of India The act done with the intention of possibility is a 'terrorist act'.
This definition includes everything from bomb blasts to the business of counterfeit notes.
Instead of giving a clear definition of terrorism and terrorist, the UAPA Act has only said that their meaning will be under the definition of 'terrorist act' given in section 15.
In Section 35, the government has been given the right that a person or organization can give a 'terrorist' agreement before the decision of the case.
This law has been in dispute
If the government is 'convinced' that a person or organization is involved in 'terrorism', then it can give it a 'terrorist' agreement.
Terrorism here means carrying out or engaging in terrorist activity, preparing for or promoting terrorism, or getting involved with it in some other way.
The interesting thing is that the government has the right to give a terrorist agreement to someone 'based on certainty' and not any court which decides based on evidence and witnesses.
Many experts believe that political-ideological opponents can be targeted.
