Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has filed a petition in the Madras High Court against IPS officer Sampath Kumar in a match-fixing case. In the petition, he accused Sampath of making objectionable remarks about the lawyers representing the Supreme Court and the state government. Dhoni has demanded the court initiate contempt proceedings against Sampath and issue a summons. Accepting this petition of Dhoni in the court, the matter has been listed, but it could not be heard on Friday.
The civil suit was filed in 2014
Dhoni had filed a civil suit against the then IG Sampath Kumar in 2014. The suit was filed to restrain Sampath Kumar from making any statement related to Dhoni in match-fixing and spot-fixing. The former captain had also requested the court to direct him to pay Rs 100 crore as damages.
At the same time, on 18 March 2014, the court restrained Sampath Kumar from making statements against Dhoni in an interim order. Even after this, Sampath Kumar reportedly filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court, making derogatory remarks against the judiciary and senior state lawyers in the case. Dhoni has also mentioned Sampath's statements in his petition.
