Disputed statement of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant amidst farmers' movement

NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Tuesday that it is very difficult to implement 'stringent' reforms in India.

The process of making economic policies 'corporate-friendly' in third world countries including India is called reform. Or it is said to make policies 'liberal'.

Amitabh Kant said that democracy is too much in India but the Modi government is moving forward with courage and commitment to reform all sectors.

He said that the Modi government has shown courage in reforming coal, labor, and agriculture.

When a large section of India's farmers are protesting against the repeal of three new agricultural laws of the Modi government, the CEO of NITI Aayog has said that there is too much democracy in India.

Amitabh Kant also defended the agricultural law of the Modi government and said that this will give an alternative to the farmers.

Amitabh Kant was speaking at an online event on the subject of 'Self-reliant Bharat ki Raha' organized by Swaraj magazine. Amitabh Kant said that these reforms are needed to compete with China in the manufacturing sector.

Amitabh Kant was asked that if Covid has allowed India to become a manufacturing hub in the 19 pandemic, then such an attempt was made earlier also. On this, the CEO of NITI Aayog said, "It is very difficult to implement stringent reforms in India. We have too much democracy here. For the first time, the government is showing courage and commitment to reforms in every sector. Improvements have been made in the coal, agriculture, and labor sectors. These are very difficult reforms. It requires serious political commitment to implement them.

Amitabh Kant to say that democracy is too much in India was engulfed in controversies.

Prashant Bhushan, a well-known lawyer of the Supreme Court, has targeted Amitabh Kant by tweeting. Prashant Bhushan has written, "After criticism, Amitabh Kant overcame his statement. After this, the story was also deleted in the media but forgot to delete the video. ”Prashant Bhushan has also posted a video of that part of what Amitabh Kant said.

After the controversy, Amitabh Kant has also issued an explanation on Twitter. He tweeted and said, "This is not at all what I have said." I was speaking about the manufacturing sector.

High court lawyer Navdeep Singh has tweeted criticizing Amitabh Kant, "Those in government posts should be careful about their words while speaking in public. What does it mean to be more democratic? ''

Is there too much democracy in India?

Recently the V-Dame Institute, a Sweden-based institution, has indicated in its report that democracy is weakening in India, called one of the largest democratic countries in the world,

V-Dam Institute's '2020 Democracy Report' is not only about India. Many countries around the world are included in this report, about which this report claims that democracy is getting weaker there.

Officials of the V-Dame Institute, an organization associated with the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, who prepare this report, say they are worried about the deteriorating state of democracy in India. In the report, India has been ranked 90th among 179 countries in the 'Liberal Democracy Index' and Denmark has been ranked first.

India's neighboring country Sri Lanka is at 70th position while Nepal is at number 72. In this list, Pakistan is at number 126 below India and Bangladesh at 154 position.

There is no separate chapter on India in this report, but it says that the space of opposition to the media, civil society, and opposition in the Modi government is becoming less, due to which India on the verge of losing its place as a democracy is.

In March 2019, India's well-known thinker Pratap Bhanu Mehta said in one of his articles, "I feel that something is happening with our democracy that is destroying the democratic soul." We are being built as a nation boiling with anger, small minds, and narrow souls. ''

He had said, "In some sense, democracy is the name of freedom, celebration, in such a system it is important to know where people will go and not from where they come back." Let's take a look at what we are going to lose in this democracy. How many of you are nationalists. Hands up You are a nationalist to show how many of those who have raised their hands, have a certificate. That is, our nationalism has been taken from us.
