The SO informed the authorities about the incident. The officials were directed to conduct raids immediately. The force was raided at around eight o'clock in the night, but the boy and girl escaped from the spot as soon as the police arrived. A maulvi and a boy named Imran were found in the house where the wedding took place. After catching both, the police took them to the police station. The SO reported that the two were being interrogated. The truth will be revealed soon.

What is love jihad, how much punishment can be done?

To curb Love Jihad in UP, the Yogi government has brought the Uttar Pradesh Laws Against Religion Transformation Prohibition Ordinance, 2020. After the approval of Governor Anandiben Patel on November 28, it has been implemented in the state.

According to the ordinance, if someone commits conversions by forcible, false, coercive, seduction, and harassment, then this offense will be non-bailable. In such a situation, a hearing will be held in the first-class magistrate's court. If the girl's religion was changed only for marriage, not only will such marriage be declared invalid, but those who convert can also face jail terms of up to ten years. According to the ordinance, the accused will have to provide proof of innocence that he has not illegally or forcibly converted the religion, the conversion was not done by harassing the girl, it will be up to the accused person to prove it.

Government can bring bill in winter session of Legislature

This ordinance has to be passed by both houses of the Legislature within 6 months. It is believed that the bill related to it can be introduced by the Yogi government in the upcoming winter session of the Legislature. After passing the proposed bill from the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, it will then be sent to the Governor for approval. This bill will become law after the approval of the Governor. There is bound to be an uproar in the House on this bill. On the floor of the House, the Opposition may question what was the emergency that the Ordinance had to be brought about Love Jihad.
