According to The Tribune's report, police said that Jugraj, who hoisted the flag at the Red Fort, neither had any link with the separatists nor had any criminal record. Jugraj's father Baldev Singh is an expert in marking gurus in Gurudwaras and Jugraj has often helped him in this work. The people of Van Tara Singh village said about this incident that Jugraj must have hoisted the flag from his mind without worrying about the result because he had experience of hoisting it in gurdwaras.

In the video, he says the youth, Jugraj Singh of Van Tara Singh village hoisted the Khalsa flag at the Red Fort. The man, who describes himself as a relative of Jugraj in the video, introduces Jugraj's father and grandfather Baldev Singh and Mahal Singh as well as his grandmother and mother respectively.
