The Union Cabinet has approved the auction of the 5G spectrum in the country. As per the proposal of the Telecom Ministry, the spectrum will be auctioned for the next 20 years. The company that is successful in the auction will be able to provide 5G service through this. It will be 10 times faster than the existing 4G service.
Although, the date of starting 5G service in the country has not been decided yet, according to the mandate of the government, any company that buys the spectrum will have to start the service within 6 months to 1 year. Many telecom operators have completed their preparations, so they can start the service within 3 to 6 months of purchasing the spectrum.
Auction by end of July 2022
A total of 72097.85 MHz spectrum with a validity period of 20 years will be auctioned by the end of July 2022. The spectrum will be auctioned for the low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz), mid (3300 MHz), and high (26 MHz) frequency bands.
Data download speeds up to 20 Gbps can be found
Data download speeds up to 10 Gbps can be found in the 5G network. During the testing of the 5G network in India, the maximum speed of data download has reached 3.7 Gbps. Three companies Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Jio have done speed tests on data download up to 3 Gbps in a 5G network trial.
