The Union Cabinet has approved the auction of the 5G spectrum in the country. As per the proposal of the Telecom Ministry, the spectrum will be auctioned for the next 20 years. Although, the date of starting 5G service in the country has not been decided yet, according to the mandate of the government, any company that buys the spectrum will have to start the service within 6 months to 1 year. Many telecom operators have completed their preparations, so they can start the service within 3 to 6 months of purchasing the spectrum.

Auction by end of July 2022

A total of 72097.85 MHz spectrum with a validity period of 20 years will be auctioned by the end of July 2022. The spectrum will be auctioned for the low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz), mid (3300 MHz), and high (26 MHz) frequency bands.
