Tahir Hussain, accused in the 2020 riots and candidate from the Mustafabad seat of Asaduddin Owaisi's party AIMIM, started campaigning in the area after coming out of jail on custody parole.

While campaigning in Mustafabad, Tahir said in a conversation with a correspondent, "Hindus and Muslims are one. Aam Aadmi Party has ruined Delhi. The people of Mustafabad are living in very bad conditions. BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party do politics of hatred."

I got parole due to Baba Saheb Ambedkar's constitution - Tahir

He said, "He is innocent. After five years, he has come among the common people. He got parole because of Baba Saheb Ambedkar's constitution. I thank the court for this."

He prepared a strategy by meeting with the workers in Mustafabad on Wednesday. During this, more than 50 policemen were deployed. Tahir Hussain will campaign from six in the morning to six in the evening. After this, he will have to spend the night in jail.

Supreme Court has granted custody parole.

Tahir Hussain, former AAP councilor and AIMIM candidate from Mustafabad, accused in the Delhi riots, has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court has granted conditional custody parole to Tahir Hussain from January 29 to February 3 for election campaigning.

During this time, he will be released from jail under police protection at 6 am every day for 12 hours as per the time fixed in the jail manual and will return to jail at 6 pm.

A total of 11 cases are registered against Tahir.

The Supreme Court clarified that this order will not be considered as a precedent for the future as it has been issued based on specific facts and circumstances. There are a total of 11 cases against Tahir, of which nine cases are related to the Delhi riots one case is UAPA and one case is of money laundering. He has already got bail in nine cases.

What happened in the Delhi riots?

Riots took place in Delhi on 24-25 February 2020 in which 53 people lost their lives and many others were injured. IB officer Ankit Sharma was also killed in the riots and Tahir Hussain is also an accused in this case. Tahir has been in jail since March 2020. Last week, a two-judge bench of the Supreme Court gave a split verdict on his demand for interim bail for the election campaign, after which the matter was sent to a three-judge bench.

On Tuesday, a three-member bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Mehta, while granting conditional custody parole to Tahir Hussain for the election campaign, also recorded the undertaking given by him to the court in the order.

Custody parole has been granted with conditions.

Tahir Hussain will bear all the expenses incurred on security etc. during these six days. He will also make arrangements for the stay of security personnel etc. Tahir will not go to his original house in Karawal Nagar (the alleged riot site) nor will he make any comment about the pending cases during campaigning or in press conferences.

Although Delhi Police had opposed giving custody parole to Tahir, on the court's order, Delhi Police said that Tahir's security would cost Rs 4,14,858 per day.

The court has ordered Tahir Hussain to deposit half of this amount i.e. Rs 2,07,429 per day. Tahir's demand for interim bail for election campaigning was rejected by the High Court, after which he filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
