Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The ED has asked both of them to appear for interrogation on June 8 in the money laundering case (under section 50 Act). Congress told that Sonia Gandhi will join the questioning. If Rahul stays in Delhi, he will also go for interrogation.

The agency has asked both the leaders to join the investigation of the National Herald case. In this case, the ED had included two big Congress leaders Pawan Bansal and Mallikarjun Kharge in the investigation on April 12. In 2014, Subramanian Swamy filed a case against Sonia and Rahul. In this, Swamy had accused the Gandhi family of misappropriation of 55 crores.

Congress attack on central government

Congress has attacked the central government on the issue of the notice. Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the dictatorial government is scared, so revenge is being taken. He said that the government has become blind in the spirit of revenge. Sent ED summons to Sonia and Rahul in the National Herald case.

This case is going on for the last 7-8 years and till now the agency has not got anything in it.

Equity conversion was done to strengthen the company and eliminate debt.

The money that came out of this equity was given to the workers and it was done with complete transparency.

After 7 years, this summons has been sent to divert the attention of the people. The people of the country understand everything.

Opposition parties are being intimidated by misusing ED, CBI, and Income Tax.

Subramanian Swamy had alleged in 2012 that Congress had given Rs 90 crore to Rahul and Sonia from party funds. Its purpose was to acquire assets of 2 thousand crores of Associate Journals. For this, the Gandhi family had given only a nominal amount of Rs 50 lakh.

BJP President Nadda's taunt on Sonia-Rahul in Bhopal

In Bhopal, BJP National President JP Nadda said on ED's notice to Sonia-Rahul – The face is messed up and they are cleaning the mirror. Have you ever seen a criminal say that I am dishonest? Rahul Gandhi is neither Indian, nor National, nor Congress. Congress is a brother-sister party. He goes to London and speaks.

understand the whole case in detail

In 1938, the Congress Party formed Associated Journals Limited (AJL). Under this, the National Herald newspaper was brought out. AJL had a debt of more than 90 crores and another company was formed to eliminate this. Whose name was Young India Limited?

In this, the share of Rahul and Sonia was 38-38%. 9 crore shares of AJL were given to Young India. It was said that Young India would pay the liabilities of AJL instead of this, but due to the high stake, Young India got the ownership rights. The loan of 90 crores given by Congress to meet the liabilities of AJL was also waived off later.

What happened in the case so far

On 1 November 2012, Subramanian Swamy filed a case in Delhi Court, in which apart from Sonia-Rahul, Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey, and Sam Pitroda were made accused.

On 26 June 2014, the Metropolitan Magistrate issued summons against all the accused including Sonia-Rahul.

On August 1, 2014, the ED took cognizance of the matter and registered a money laundering case.

In May 2019, the ED seized assets worth 64 crores related to this case.

On 19 December 2015, Delhi Patiala Court granted bail to all the accused including Sonia, and Rahul in this case.

On 9 September 2018, the Delhi High Court gave a blow to Sonia and Rahul in this case. The court had dismissed the petition against the notice of the Income Tax Department.

Congress challenged this in the Supreme Court as well, but on December 4, 2018, the court said that the Income Tax investigation would continue. However, no order will be passed till the next hearing.
