The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has rolled out key changes to the EPF Scheme 2025-26, alongside a major relief for crores of provident fund subscribers. After the Ministry of Finance approved the 8.25% EPF interest rate for the financial year 2025-26 (FY26), EPFO has now instructed its regional and zonal offices to begin the process of crediting interest into members' accounts.
The move is expected to benefit more than seven crore EPF subscribers across the country.
EPFO Directs Regional Offices to Credit 8.25% Interest
Following the Centre's approval of the 8.25% annual EPF interest rate, EPFO has issued fresh instructions to its regional offices to start crediting the interest amount to subscribers' provident fund accounts.
According to reports, the interest credit process has officially begun, and eligible account holders are expected to receive the amount in their EPF accounts soon.
When Will EPF Interest Be Credited?
As per reports, the interest for FY2025-26 could start reflecting in subscribers' accounts within the coming week.
Traditionally, EPFO begins crediting annual interest during July, although the process is completed in phases. Depending on the regional office and account verification, members may receive the credited interest anytime between July and September.
EPF Interest Rate Remains Unchanged
For the financial year 2025-26, EPFO has retained the 8.25% interest rate, the same as the previous financial year.
The interest rate received formal approval from the Ministry of Finance, allowing EPFO to begin disbursing interest to subscribers.
Who Will Benefit?
The latest decision will benefit:
More than 7 crore EPF subscribers
Salaried employees contributing to EPF
Members maintaining active EPF accounts during FY26
The credited interest will automatically be added to subscribers' provident fund balances.
Major EPF Rule Changes Also Announced
Apart from the interest update, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has also notified important changes to the EPF Scheme 2025-26 and introduced revisions related to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS).
These reforms are aimed at simplifying EPF administration and improving benefits for subscribers.
How to Check EPF Interest Credit Status
Subscribers can verify whether the interest has been credited by using any of these methods:
EPFO Member e-Sewa Portal
UMANG App
EPFO Passbook Portal
SMS and missed call services linked to UAN
Once processed, the updated balance will appear in the EPF passbook.
