Stock Market Holiday September 14: NSE, BSE Closed for Ganesh Chaturthi; Check Commodity Trading Hours

Posted on 14th Sep 2026 12:17 pm by rohit kumar

Indian stock market trading will remain closed on Monday, September 14, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have listed September 14 as a trading holiday in their 2026 calendars. Equity and equity derivatives trading will therefore remain suspended for the day.

Trading on the domestic equity market will resume on Tuesday, September 15. Investors should note that exchange trading holidays are based on the respective market calendars and can differ from bank or government-office holidays.

Stock Market Closed on September 14

The NSE's official 2026 holiday calendar lists Monday, September 14, 2026, as Ganesh Chaturthi. The exchange does not conduct its regular equity trading sessions on declared holidays.

As a result, investors will not be able to execute regular equity trades on the NSE and BSE during the holiday. Equity derivatives trading is also covered by the exchange's holiday schedule.

The regular NSE equity market normally opens at 9:15 AM, following the pre-open session, but these sessions will not operate on September 14 because of the trading holiday.

What Happens in the Commodity Market?

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) follows a different schedule for Ganesh Chaturthi.

According to MCX's official holiday calendar, the morning trading session will remain closed on September 14, while the evening session will remain open. The evening session starts at 5:00 PM and generally continues until 11:30 PM, extending to 11:55 PM when US Daylight Saving Time is in effect.

MCX's trading schedule also specifies different closing times for commodity categories. Internationally referenceable non-agricultural commodities can trade until 11:30 PM or 11:55 PM, while internationally linked agricultural commodities have separate timings.

Trading Holiday vs Settlement Holiday: What Is the Difference?

A trading holiday means the exchange does not conduct its regular trading sessions. Investors cannot execute normal buy or sell orders on the affected market during that period.

A settlement holiday, on the other hand, relates to the clearing and settlement of transactions. A market may be open for trading even when settlement activities are suspended or shifted because of a settlement holiday.

For Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, 2026, the domestic equity market has a full trading holiday, meaning NSE and BSE equity trading will not take place that day.

When Will Stock Market Trading Resume?

After the Ganesh Chaturthi holiday, normal equity-market trading will resume on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Investors planning trades around the holiday should also check their broker's order and settlement schedules, particularly for transactions placed before the market closure.
