The expressway was completely shut down as the protesting farmers blocked all their carriageways. The Delhi Traffic Police, using Twitter, gave the public an update at around 7:37 pm that the carriageway on the Ghazipur-Ghaziabad border would remain closed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Jasmeet Singh also confirmed the blockade by the protesting farmers on the border. The sudden blockade on the expressway has prompted the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police to divert traffic to alternate boundaries like Anand Vihar, Bhopura, and Apsara. Since this time is important for office goers, traffic problems can arise during this time.
Officials of the Uttar Pradesh administration and Delhi Police are discussing with the protesting farmers to reopen at least one carriageway. Farmers protesting at the UP Gate border have taken over the carriageway and service road of the expressway leading from Ghaziabad to Delhi since starting their agitation last month.
